Auto HotPixel Removal

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Please Note: Auto hot pixel removal is only available for monochrome cameras. For colour cameras a similar mechanism (colour smoothing) is available. Please see here for details: Color Smoothing

Similar to the dark frame and bad pixel map functions the cosmetic correction function can be used to combat hot pixel in the captured image. The function tries to identify 'outlier pixels' by looking at the surrounding pixels for each pixel in turn to see if the pixel has a valid value or not. The function will be applied to images straight after capture.

The relevant settings can be found in the 'Acquisition Settings - Additional' section of the settings:

The following settings determine the outcome:

Auto Hot Pixel Threshold: The number of times a pixel must be brighter than any of its surrounding pixels to be classed as a hot pixel
Auto Hot Pixel Radius: The number of surrounding pixels that will be included in the process i.e. a value of 1 will only include the adjacent pixel, a value of 2 will include pixels 2 pixel removed from the target pixel and so on

Please note that a degree of experimentation will be necessary to arrive at good value to ensure that hot pixel are removed whilst not removing meaningful data.
