It is possible to set the gain property for cameras by changing the appropriate settings in the image acquisition section. Please note that not all cameras support this and you will also need to make sure that the entered values are within the camera's gain available range (otherwise an error will occur):
Separate gain values can be set for daytime and nighttime operations (but you can also set the same value for both!). The used gain will change at sunset/sunrise, see bleow for transition from day to night and back.
Please note that some cameras (like ASI ZWO) also allow the setting of default gain within the camera specific settings. If day/nighttime gain values have not been set then thjis default gain will be used. If the day/nighttime values are supplied then they will be used instead (both need to be set).
Gain Transition
To provide a smooth transition from day to night gain values you can specify gain transition setting which will linearly change the gain from one value to the other over a specified time period around sunset and sunrise.
| • | Gain Transition Sunrise/Sunset Offset: The point in time relative to sunset or sunrise where the app will transition from day gain to night gain and vice versa. A value of 0 will switch at exactly sunrise and sunset. A negative value will switch by the set amount of minutes after sunset and before sunrise (towards the dark period). A positive value will switch by the set amount of minutes after sunrise and before sunset. |
| • | Gain Transition Time Period: The time period over which the gain transition should be completed. The gain will be reduced or increased in steps to reach the new target in the set period of minutes centered around the transition time set in the previous setting. For example if the 'Gain Transition Sunrise/Sunset Offset' settings is set to -30 and this setting is set to 20 then the gain transition will center around 30 minutes after sunset and start 10 minutes before that time and finish 10 minutes after. A value of 0 will switch the gain instantly from day to night and vice versa without a transition. |
